The owner's explanations were clear and thorough, and the place was wonderful and clean throughout, from the building and rooms to the halls and shared toilets. Freshly cooked rice came with both breakfast and dinner, and the bento-style side dishes were tasty and nicely arranged. My one gripe was the laundry setup: there's just one washer-dryer, and a single person's load ties it up for around three hours. Having to wait three or four hours each time is really frustrating. I wish they would at least offer a wash-only option.

I found the bed warm and fluffy, and the hotel-style room was really comfortable. I was asked to bring towels and other items from the amenities corner, but they had already put them in the room, which was helpful. There was a TV, fridge, hair dryer, and more. I stayed on the first floor. The outside looks like a traditional Japanese inn, but the room is like a business hotel, which made getting around easier since there isn't an elevator. I've stayed at hostels in Akune a few times, and this kind of hotel-style lodging is very comfortable.

After getting used to the self-check-in, I found this a comfortable and relaxing inn. You get a key code when you book, then enter the PIN to open the door. Following the panel instructions, check-in took about five minutes. The free parking lot is spacious and easy to use, and the eco-cleaning program gets you a free bottle of water. I stayed three nights. Breakfast was served, with a portion of side dishes on the tray and rice and miso soup available for self-service. The menu seemed to change each day, which I appreciated. The rooms face either the ocean or the mountains, but they're pretty much alike. On this third visit, though, I noticed some things had slipped. The breakfast menu from my previous stay was gone, maybe there had been too many dishes to manage. It had been carefully put together, so I was disappointed they couldn't keep it going. The owner seemed a bit less enthusiastic, too, and the cleaning was lacking, with dust on the bed and the water heater not checked. I hope things improve. I'll definitely come back to Akune.

The ice maker came in handy, and I'll definitely visit again. It's a nice place to stay, though Akune seems to have become mostly a row of shuttered shops. A-Z Supermarket has general goods and food. I forgot the room access code once and couldn't get back in after leaving. Luckily another guest helped me get a phone set up. Since I can't be reached on my tablet in the evenings, make sure to take your smartphone when you leave the room.

My father lives in Akune, and my husband and I stayed at Oyado Midokoi to visit him. The staff were very friendly, and I was impressed by the service. The hotel is clean and highly praised. They don't provide pajamas or similar items, so bring your own. The shampoo is a shampoo-conditioner combination, and women with long hair may want to bring conditioner too. Toothbrushes, razors, body sponges, cotton swabs, cotton balls, rubber bands, and other items are available at the entrance. I was glad my father could join me for breakfast, which cost extra. I'd like to stay here again when I visit Akune.
