The owners make hospitality feel personal. Hotel New Daiei serves two home-cooked meals a day in a spacious, clean dining room, with traditional Japanese breakfasts and dinners that left me curious about what they’d make next. They can also accommodate dietary needs such as veganism with special options. The warm, bright lobby felt like home from the moment I walked in. Rooms have warm duvets, comfortable pajamas, and the things travelers need to rest well. The Japanese-style baths are great for a long soak, with Wisteria bath salts from the world-famous Ashikaga Flower Park. While in town, visit Orihime Park for its traditional architecture, then try fresh hand-made soba at Kyouyuuan. Banna-ji temple is a peaceful place to pause, wash your hands, ring the bell, offer yen, and say a prayer. The family who runs Hotel New Daiei treats hospitality like a calling. It’s an easy choice for a stay in Ashikaga.

The Fukuda family has worked in hospitality for decades, and their care is what made our four-day stay feel like staying with family. On weekdays they cook multi-course breakfasts and dinners, with Japanese, Western, and vegetarian or vegan choices. We enjoyed the menus every day. Hotel New Deiei is a business hotel mainly set up for people traveling to town for work. The lobby and dining room were recently renovated with welcoming details. Upstairs are many efficient single rooms, each with a clean bathroom, a double bed that’s comfortable for one, a small desk, and a mini fridge. Slippers and comfortable linen samue, like pajamas, are provided. There are also a few larger rooms for families.

My husband and I have stayed at this lovely hotel many times. The service is outstanding, and the food is all home-cooked. It’s in a quiet spot with easy access from the train station and plenty of parking. The river nearby makes for a nice walk. Great value and convenient too.

The setting on the Watarase river is beautiful, and the staff are friendly. Rooms are clean and modern, with air conditioning, wifi, and a desk. Breakfast and dinner are wonderful home cooking. Of all the hotels I’ve stayed in Japan, this was the best value, across 21 trips over more than 15 years.

I was blown away by how clean the room was, right down to the little details. The bed felt just right to me, even more comfortable than my own, and despite plenty of other guests, it stayed quiet and I slept soundly. The lobby made me blurt out, “Wow, this is lovely!” There were cute decorations on the stairs and in the halls, too. The location worked perfectly for getting around by car. The front desk staff were friendly and genuinely kind. I didn’t book meals this time, but I’d like to next time. And the sunset from the embankment behind the hotel was amazing. I liked this place so much I almost worry a review will make it harder to book. The difference from the other Ashikaga business hotel I stayed in the day before was striking.
