Dinner and breakfast were a real highlight, with lots of dishes made from locally grown vegetables, meat, and fish. The ryokan also has several kinds of onsen, and we really enjoyed them. The building is about 100 years old and has been reused as a ryokan. Our room was simple but clean and comfortable, and the hallway floor had a lovely polished shine. At bedtime we could hear the river flowing and smell fragrant olive blossoms. Everyone on staff was friendly, polite, and helpful. I’d love to stay here again if I get back to the Aso area.

The onsen was the standout for all five of us. The water felt just the right temperature, and our skin felt moisturized afterward. We didn’t feel the need to use body cream or hair oil, and our hair and skin felt so smooth. We booked two rooms, with the stay, baths, dinner, and breakfast included. At check-in, seeing five pairs of slippers set out for us made us feel welcome. The ryokan is near Ikeyama Suigen, and the tap water comes from the spring. It tasted delicious. Dinner came in courses, with tasty dishes and more than 20 kinds of pickles available freely. Breakfast was very good too. The staff were friendly and attentive. I’d definitely recommend staying here and trying the onsen.
