Ocean View House

The view was fantastic from morning until sundown, and just sitting on the balcony or soaking in the private hot spring while looking at the coast and surroundings felt blissful. The beds were really comfortable, and the fireplace, which costs extra, created an atmosphere I can’t forget. The host was very responsive and addressed our concerns and requests. The station is quite a distance away, but we chose to walk back. It let us soak up the village atmosphere and see the impressive foundations of the homes built on the hill. I’ll recommend it to friends and family.

Such a beautiful place, with a gorgeous ocean view. The private hot spring bath is a big bonus, and the size works well for a couple, small group, or family. We’d definitely stay again!

The whole night was awful. We paid $570 for a family stay, plus a $90 cleaning fee, and found a huge cockroach crawling on the wall, stained coffee mugs, spider webs on the patio chairs, and mosquitoes that kept us awake. We were frightened and, since we had already made the difficult drive up the mountain and had no car-free way to leave, we stayed. At 4 a.m. I messaged Airi to ask about a nearby pharmacy for bite cream. She said the bites might be from mosquitoes or something else, which felt like a bad response when we were having such a rough night. We did contact Airbnb customer service. The host objected to a refund on the grounds that it was only about mosquito bites, but cleanliness was part of the problem too. We sent her photos and told her what we had found. At first she was friendly and apologized. After seeing our negative review, she said she had had a terrible experience with us. We felt we were the ones who had suffered, and had simply got through the night without making a fuss. We also cleaned all the dishes and treated the place like our own. We want the public to judge fairly, and we want an apology for being accused of being terrible guests after telling the truth. The host says we didn't tell her until after the stay. On checkout day we had to return the car, catch a train, and go to Kyoto. We didn't want an argument to spoil our family trip, so we tried to let it go. We had booked a month ahead, then noticed two weeks later that the price had been cut in half. We asked her and Airbnb about matching the price, but she declined. We didn't bring that up in our review and still stayed. One more thing: this is our only account for writing reviews in English. We don't know of another account writing in Japanese, so the host may have mistaken us for someone else. It wasn't us. Thanks.

The place was really cozy, with a handy BBQ set on the balcony and a wood-burning stove in the living room. The host was so kind and replied to messages right away, even on check-in day. I'd definitely come back for another holiday :)
