Honestly, keep this place a secret.

February 2026, stayed without meals. The hot springs were nice, and the room was roomy with a view even from the second floor. The outside and reception have a museum-like look. It's clean, though the building feels old. Amenities are very limited: shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are supplied, but not a hairbrush, hair tie, hair cap, cleanser, lotion, or oil. A toothbrush can be bought at reception for 55 yen. There's no complimentary water in the room fridge. The second-floor vending machine sells water for 150 yen, cash only, and there's a microwave in the second-floor hall.

You can check in as late as 11 PM, which leaves more room for planning your evening. From the hilltop hotel, the view stretches from the lights around the station all the way to the sea, even though the map makes it look far from the water. Since there are no nearby shops or convenience stores, and drinks are all you can buy there, bring anything else you need in advance.

I left satisfied, though I can see why people might have mixed feelings about this place. The hilltop position gives it a magnificent view, with Hatsushima Island visible straight from the window. For today's prices, the rates are quite reasonable, so I do recommend a visit if you keep the tradeoffs in mind. The walk from Atami Station looks short on a map, but the route climbs a very steep hill. Without knowing that, you could be in for a shock. A taxi or bus to the MOA Museum of Art and then walking from there is a better idea. A taxi costs around 1,000 yen. The building is clean but old. It seems to have been a Sony company resort, and karaoke rooms and a multipurpose room with table tennis remain from that time. It doesn't feel modern, so anyone expecting that might be disappointed. Many plans are room-only, and amenities are sparse. I think toothbrushes and toothpaste may cost extra, so bring your own. Service may also disappoint if you expect a lot. Reception appears to be staffed by one person, so check-in waits are quite possible. The receptionist when I was there was a foreigner with excellent Japanese, and I had no difficulty, though I imagine some guests might be uncomfortable with it.

The reception offers very little service. The location is nice, though, with sunrise visible over the sea.
