The decor is modern and chic, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Everything was clean, too. It's close to Beppu station and lots of hot springs and bathhouses, so getting around was easy. I'd recommend it for a few days in Beppu.
The staff were friendly, but the lack of facilities made this the worst hostel I've stayed in during two months of traveling in Japan. No showers, common area, washing machine or fridge...
The older reviews don't reflect the place now. The new facilities are nice and there's a shower. I had a lovely stay, with a great location, helpful staff and a good price. I'd be glad to stay here again next time I'm in Beppu.
Right in the center, with everything close by, this was a lovely, cozy place with refined decor. The staff welcomed me warmly and explained how to explore the area. I tried my first Onsen here. I'd recommend it.
The location was good, but that was about the only thing going for this hostel. Staff were pleasant, though chaotic and disorganized. The place felt hastily unfinished, possibly to be ready for the rugby World Cup, and priced at twice the normal rate. There seemed to be more investment in fancy decor, key locks and light fittings than basic facilities. There was no shower, so guests had to use local onsens. We knew that, but it still felt overpriced. Only one toilet was usable because the other kept blocking. The promised cafe or bar wasn't available, vending machines were out on the street, and the so-called lounge was just a landing with two armchairs. Rooms were cramped for six people with bags. Private parties in the bar brought noise and food smells into our room until late.
