Resorpia Beppu

The breakfast was superb, and we also enjoyed the shabu shabu at dinner. Our room was spacious, with both regular beds and futons, and could actually sleep four people even though there were only two of us. It’s a very nice hotel, and having its own onsen baths is a real plus.

The staff were friendly and did their best to make us feel welcome, but the hotel wasn’t what had been described. I’d booked a room that was supposed to have a Tatami floor, and it didn’t; the room also looked dated and unlike what I thought I’d paid for. The WiFi didn’t work, and I had to come back downstairs to finish checking in after I’d already gone to bed. I couldn’t use the baths because of my tattoos. I should have checked beforehand, though Beppu is generally pretty Tattoo friendly. Just be aware you won’t be allowed in here if you have them, which is fair enough.

The onsen was cozy, and there’s an outdoor section too. A few convenience stores are nearby. The staff were attentive, and reception was super friendly. One of them even covered my half-full glass with a tissue in case I wanted to finish it later. Washing clothes here isn’t very convenient. The room was smaller than I expected, but had what I needed, including a hairdryer, tissues, and enough cups. The tatami was really comfortable. The toilet was very small, though that seems to be standard in Japan. A cozy place to stay if you’re exploring the Beppu area.

The hot spring is spacious and has a nice view of Beppu at night. Dinner was delicious too, with a good temperature, portion size, and freshness. The room lighting could use some work. It was unsettling.
