The central garden was a real highlight, beautifully kept and lovely for a quiet stroll. The ryokan itself has a grand sense of history but still feels welcoming, and the staff looked after us with real kindness and professionalism. We were fortunate to visit Daimaru Besso during its 160th anniversary. The atmosphere was lively, with guests celebrating special occasions, and you can feel why generations have loved this place. The famous indoor onsen was spacious and relaxing. It’s a special place that carries its history gracefully. Thanks for the lovely memories!

I slept really well for all three nights. The bedding was clean and comfortable, and you can ask to have the bed made each day at check-in. What impressed me most was how thoroughly they cleaned every day. They seemed to vacuum and mop the whole place, and you could feel how dust-free it was walking barefoot. The bathroom was cleaned too, and everything in the room was replenished, so it felt like arriving fresh each time. I never found anything missing. I booked a traditional Japanese-style room with a private bathroom and wooden tub. It came with pretty much everything, including a fridge with freezer, TV, amenities, a large bottle of water, bath towel, and Yukata. Breakfast and dinner are available if booked ahead and paid for at checkout. I tried breakfast, a tasty traditional Japanese meal. I’d definitely come back if I can, and would recommend it to everyone.

The premium room was beautiful and huge, with a living room, dining room, changing room, bathroom, and sleeping area. The garden was lovely too, and made a great spot for photos. The onsen was the highlight for me, big and straight out of a ghibli movie. It was a beautiful, traditional place with a cozy, laid-back feel. Restaurants and konbinis were within walking distance. I went to the onsen five times, definitely recommend it.

The onsen was the best part, with a large, pool-sized bath filled with natural hot water. It was so relaxing. The men’s and women’s baths are separate, and I went with my children, aged 6 and 8. They loved it too. We stayed two nights in October 2025. The room was spacious, very quiet, and really nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was child friendly, with yukata and footwear in children’s sizes and a children’s breakfast option.

The wooden bath has a lovely atmosphere and looks and feels great. This is the kind of “Japan” experience people come looking for. You do have to walk a bit to get there, but it’s on the expensive side, so you’re booking to stay and enjoy the experience anyway. The Wi-Fi was strangely slow.
