Kukuna Fujikawaguchiko Resort & Spa

The rooms looked out across a beautiful, wide lake with Fuji in the background, and the view was spectacular. The food was quite good, especially the hot dishes, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. An amazing hotel, easily 5 stars.

We spent two nights at Kukuna on our trip to Mt Fuji and found it very comfortable and luxurious. Our room had a lovely view of the lake with Mt Fuji behind it, and you can walk along the lake right in front of the hotel for more great scenery. The location, facilities, and service were all excellent. Breakfast and dinner were included, and we enjoyed the dining experience too.

The rooms, views, and food at Kukuna were good, and most of the restaurant staff were warm and friendly. Our room was comfortable and well kept, and we liked the location. But two service problems left a bad impression. First, we saw guests taking mobile phones into the communal spa, which raised a privacy concern. We reported it to the front desk the next day. Staff said they had spoken to the person, though by then there was no way to know who it had been. That response felt dismissive, and the spa’s privacy and security didn’t seem to be taken seriously. We also had trouble getting a window seat for our group. We said we were happy to split into two tables if needed, but one staff member made an audible, annoyed “tsk” and told us there were no seats. When we went into the restaurant, we saw several empty window seats with clear views. Management blamed a language barrier, even though the staff member had been using a translator app to communicate with us. It felt like a courtesy issue, and the defensive response was frustrating. A simple apology would have been enough. For a hotel of this tier, the customer service and management’s accountability fell short. Being lied to and scoffed at spoiled what should have been a relaxing vacation. I hope they take guest feedback more seriously.

Kukuna Hotel was clean, comfortable, and peaceful, and the onsen overlooking Fuji was a memorable part of my stay. The service was another highlight: the staff were attentive, very friendly, and always smiling, and they helped whenever we asked. What stayed with me most was seeing Mount Fuji so clearly from our room and the shared areas. Waking up to that view made the trip feel special. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the Fuji area.
