It's a peaceful spot, with lovely surroundings for a walk, especially by Kanna River. Take a look at the winter sakura tree at the entrance, too. The owner was kind and helpful, and we enjoyed the authentic meals we ordered as well as the onsen. This was our group's second stay here. I'd recommend it if you're looking for somewhere quiet to rest.

I only booked this place because I was holding on to a little hope after reading the glowing reviews. They said it might look old but was clean, and that the food was good value. None of that matched what I found. The room's air conditioner was coated in mold and dust. The cups felt sticky, and even the lobby decorations were dusty. The cockroach spray was sitting out in the open, which made me wonder when anyone last cleaned the bathroom. The bath mat looked like it hadn't been used in ages, and the drain was so poor that water ran from the sink toward the tub. The meal was a letdown too. The sashimi was awful, and they served frozen ingredients I couldn't make sense of instead of local vegetables or river fish. There was one rice container, filled up, but no soup. The boiled soba was stuck to its bowl, as though I was supposed to pour soup over it later. When I asked about alcohol, I was told to choose something from the refrigerator in my room, then left completely on my own. It felt like they were saying, "Do whatever you want." I saw no sign that they wanted to welcome guests. Maybe they just want the place to go out of business. If they don't have enough staff to do anything else, they should close already.
I was very happy with the food, it was delicious and spectacular. The building is old, but it's looked after, and that Showa-era atmosphere brings back memories. The bath is clear and a little lukewarm, yet I stayed warm and comfortable for a long time afterward. It seems there used to be a wedding hall and a snack bar here. Now it feels like a quiet inn where time just drifts by.
The meals were generous and tasty, even if they weren't fancy, and the bath stays open 24 hours so you can really unwind. I stopped here after a mountain climb because the price was reasonable. It's an old-fashioned place with a strong Showa-era feel. The toilets are Japanese style and the hallways are kept quite energy-saving, but I'm used to inns like this, so it was fine for me. There's an EV charging station.
