Kinokuniya Ryokan

The staff were all kind and friendly, and the included traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious. The bath areas were very clean, too. It's an old ryokan with some repairs and upgrades due, but I've stayed in much worse. The bathrooms and toilets are separate from the rooms, which is common. It's very conveniently located for Enoshima island, the beaches, and lots of nearby restaurants. If you're driving, parking isn't available until after 1600, and finding it can be tricky on the narrow one-way roads. I'd like to stay again, but next time I'll take the train.

The staff were nice, but the room smelled like cigarettes and the entrance smelled like dead fish. There's no food, and a lot of things need renovating. I came wanting something authentic to old Japan, and that's what I got, so I can't give it a worse rating.

I wasn't staying at the hotel, but I ate at the restaurant in Enoshima every day. The traditional local-style finish, especially the tatami area, was just what I was looking for. The staff were nice, and there were lots of Japanese diners chatting softly. It felt like a nostalgic Japanese experience. The food was special and delicious, with lots of seafood and tasty side dishes. My favorite was the coffee-flavored sweet bean. Coffee, milk tea, and soft drinks, including yogurt flavor, were free. The price was reasonable.

We booked the hotel with dinner and breakfast. Both meals were amazing, with fresh, well-cooked seafood and generous portions. We could choose what time to eat, and they served the meals at the time we picked. Our room for 3-6 people felt more like an apartment. It had a living room, a main room that sleeps three, and two small rooms that fit one person each. The Wi-Fi was weak, but we barely used it, so that was fine. Soundproofing wasn't good, and we could hear other people in the morning, though it was tolerable. It was a really good experience and worth the price.
