Bed Stock was only a minute from Exit 2 of Akasaka train station, and the rate was very affordable. The individual bedrooms are small, but still better than capsules. The shared showers and toilets were clean, and there's a nice food and beverage space downstairs to spend time in. The main drawback was the noise, including snoring and doors opening.

For one night, it was an okay stay. I liked having a real mattress and a bed that was already made, which was a big plus compared with many places in Japan. The staff seemed decent, and the station exit is literally next door. Some of the layout was awkward. The dorm beds are scattered around rather than capsule-style, and the room seems packed with as many bunks as possible. From the top bunk, the lights shone right in my eyes. The floor didn't feel sturdy or concrete, so footsteps were both audible and noticeable, especially late at night when people came in. The elevator only reaches the fourth floor. My dorm was on the fifth, so I had another flight of stairs to climb. That wasn't a big issue for me as a backpacker, but could be tough with huge luggage. The reception and ground floor were very dim. Maybe they wanted a retro, hip look, but to me it felt unwelcoming when I first arrived. The connected metal bathroom sinks also seemed oddly placed, and when several people used them, water got into your space.

The dorms and bathroom were clean, and the bed was comfortable. But the main floor is actually a bar with irregular hours and very loud parties at night. I could hear music on the third floor, so this isn't a good fit if sleeping well matters to you. It might be a place to meet locals, though. The room lighting was poor, and the locker was tiny. There wasn't proper luggage storage either, just a bike lock attached to the stair railing by the main door.

Such a lovely hostel. The staff were warm and friendly, and spoke several languages, including English, Japanese, and French. It had a great atmosphere, was very clean, and the price was good. I'd happily stay again.

One of the nicest dorms I've stayed in. It was very clean, close to the subway, and had all the basic things I needed.
