Guest House Nakaima

For 49€ I got a double tatamy room, and the guesthouse was excellent. Kushida shrine is just a stone throw away, and Tochoji temple isn't far either. Restaurants and bars are all within walking distance.

The internet was really bad, and having only one toilet was the main downside. Otherwise, I had no problems. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and the location is central. Thank you.

The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Showers and sinks are on the same floor as the women's dorm, which made things easy. I also used the coin laundry: the machines worked well, detergent was included because it dispenses automatically, and staff changed money into 100 yen coins. The towel I rented was surprisingly soft and a little fluffy, much nicer than the usual rough, cheap hostel towels. The big problem for me was the stairs between the second-floor kitchen and eating area and the third-floor women's dorm. They're steep and a bit uneven, with a sharp metal edge on every step. Carrying two large backpacks felt dangerous, and even walking normally did, so I wish they would add rubber or something for safety. When the person above me shifted around, the whole bunk shook so much I woke up thinking there was an earthquake. It's also farther from the bus and train station than some other places, so bear that in mind if you've got lots of luggage. I'd recommend staying if you find a good price online.

I stayed in May 2024 and enjoyed it enough to come back. The rooms and facilities looked like the pictures, and everything was clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and tried to help even though the staff member I met didn't speak English very well. The walk from Hakata was okay. On rainy days, you can take the train to the nearest station and walk a short distance; an umbrella is provided. Convenience stores are nearby, and Canal city and the shopping street are a short walk away. The door closes softly. My tatami bed had a mattress, and the locked drawer underneath fit a small backpack. There's no free towel, but you can rent one. The upper bunk has no curtain at the foot, so other people can see you there. There was a power socket and lamp. Keep in mind there's no elevator if you have big luggage. My floor had two showers. There's no luggage room, but you can leave bags at reception. Reception shuts at 9pm, though guests have another access door. There's also coin-machine laundry.
