Hakata Gofukumachi Hostel Takataniya

The hotel says it is eco-friendly. You can get amenities, but they cost 200 yen, and parking is 1,500 yen a day. If you skip room cleaning, they give you slippers, water, and towels. The room is quite tight, as you'd expect with a typical Japanese-style room.

The room was pretty roomy, and I liked how the bathroom had separate shower and toilet areas. Our twin beds, probably about 4 feet wide, were really comfortable. There was still not much space to walk around, so getting large suitcases open was a bit tricky. The hotel itself was clean and new, with a microwave and vending machines inside. Amenities are set out in the lobby for guests to pick up. FamilyMart, Lawson, and 7-Eleven are nearby, and it's about a five-minute walk to Gofukumachi Station. The subway only takes a few stops to Fukuoka Airport. The lobby staff in the morning on November 30 were lovely and stored our luggage for us. The check-out staff were pleasant too. But whoever was on check-in between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM on November 30 was really rude. We showed our booking confirmation, and when they asked for our name in English, we pointed to it on the document. They said, “This doesn’t seem like English, it looks like Arabic.” We had to insist it was our English name. We also asked how many lobby items we could take, since a yen symbol made us wonder if extras cost money. The staff sighed and said, “It’s free.” Their attitude was unpleasant. It seems to have been one staff member in particular.

I only got to stay one night, so there wasn't much time to explore nearby, but I had a really nice experience and would recommend the hotel for a Fukuoka visit. I'm from Indonesia and this was my first trip to Fukuoka with a friend. They kindly upgraded us to a bigger room for free, which was a touching gesture. The room was neat and clean, and the air conditioner worked very well. Slippers, toothbrushes, towels, and bathrobes were provided. Gofukumachi station is close, and the walk is comfortable even with baggage. The hotel accepts cash, credit cards, and debit cards. There are convenience stores and izakaya restaurants nearby.

We only stayed one night, so there wasn't enough time to explore, which was a shame. The neighborhood seemed decent, with a supermarket and an Izakaya Restaurant within walking distance. The walk from gofukumachi to the hotel is really short, even for someone like me who never walks back home. They gave us a free upgrade, a kind gesture since we know almost no Japanese. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Thanks for a pleasant stay.
