Hotel Monterey Fukuoka

The onsen on the 3rd floor is small, but I found the room spacious and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful despite the tension between China and Japan at the moment. The hotel sits right above a subway station, about 20 minutes from the Airport, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I stayed five nights during an 8D7N trip.

The Sento was top notch, and they also provide weighing scales. We were there for a week, and the staff kept trying to respond to our requests and were helpful. The closest underground station is only about a 2-minute walk away.

The rooms were roomy and comfortable, and the location worked well. Still, the welcome left a bad impression. The three of us had to haul eight or nine bags from the ground floor up to reception on the third floor, pushing the hotel’s large cart ourselves. No one offered to help while we struggled. Otsuka spoke in a cold, robotic way, and by the end of check-in I felt very unwelcome. On checkout day, a staff member rode the lift with us without saying hello or acknowledging us. I assumed he was from housekeeping, then he went to reception and checked us out. I’d had a very good stay at hotel Monterey Osaka and expected Monterey Fukuoka to be similar, but I wouldn’t return. There are other nice hotels on the same street I’d like to try.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff made communication in English easy. Yotsumoto helped us a lot, and a gentleman at the front desk even called a taxi and showed us to the stand. Everyone was friendly and did their best to assist us. I’d stay here again next time I’m in Fukuoka.
