KOKO HOTEL Fukuoka Tenjin

Getting around from here was easy: there’s a bus stop right outside, two subway stations nearby, and the main shopping street with Donki and several malls is within walking distance. The location really is excellent. The practical issues added up, though. This hotel has more than 10 floors but just one laundry machine, and the mini fridge in our room did not cool at all. When we asked reception, they said that was normal for a fridge that size. We’ve stayed in many hotels with small fridges that were cool or cold, so that answer didn’t make sense to us. We were also disappointed by the staff. We’re used to warm, helpful service in Japan, but here they often seemed unfriendly and reluctant to assist. At checkout, the two of us were dealing with three large suitcases, two medium ones, and two bags as we got out of the elevator. The staff immediately asked for our room key card instead of offering help. Something similar happened while I was weighing my luggage, and there were several other moments like that.

The hotel's location is handy, within a short walk of Tenjin underground street and some nice restaurants. The rooms were a good size, but they weren't clean. The bed squeaked loudly and was uncomfortable, and the curtains were torn. We understood it was busy at check-in, but the male staff member who checked us in was rude. He didn't explain the total cost structure, and when he asked if we had questions, he seemed impatient about answering them. We had two rooms for three people and asked for two key cards per room. He was reluctant to provide them. That evening, I went back to the front desk and explained that my teenager was in the double room alone, and we wanted another card so we wouldn't have to worry about leaving one inside when going out. The woman at the desk was helpful and understanding, which earned the service back a star. We'd had good service and amenities at their Kumamoto branch just before this stay, but despite that, I would definitely avoid staying at this hotel again.

The room door collapsed onto my wife's leg, and she couldn't move afterward. It was a nightmare, easily the worst hotel stay of our lives. The place felt unsafe, poorly maintained, and dangerous, with no sense of responsibility or basic standards. Avoid it at all costs. This is HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed for seven nights as a family of three in the Queen Bedroom. The queen bed fit us, and the room was spacious. We also liked the table and office chair, and the bathroom was great. The toiletries were complete, with extra complimentary items available by reception on the ground floor. I especially liked the drip coffee. There are lots of convenience stores, restaurants, bus stops, and subway stations close by. The room rate on Klook did not include the city tax, which we had to pay separately. There isn't a smoking area at the hotel, but Kego park is within walking distance and has one. The laundry area is small and has only one washing machine. Housekeeping is required to clean the room once every three days. It was a good deal for our stay while exploring Fukuoka, Japan.
