The breakfast was the reason we booked, and it was so good that even at the fairly high price, it felt worth it. The hotel is close to rows of restaurants and massage places, as well as the Fukuoka shopping centre. Laundry is available, and the staff were super friendly and helpful when we needed help using Yamato for the first time. Highly recommend. There were a few catches. You have to choose a breakfast time every day, which surprised us at check-in, and the service starts very early. We’re not morning people. We stayed several nights, and each time we had to sit outside in the cold to eat. Fukuoka winters can be around zero or below. They gave us blankets, but we still had to bundle up every morning. The rooms are very small and tight.

We paid an exorbitant amount for the smallest room we’ve stayed in across Kyushu. The staff weren’t friendly, and breakfast was a mess: a very small selection for the hotel’s name and just 45 minutes to eat, after which they literally chase you out. Then you have to queue in the cold for dessert from a van outside the hotel. There’s nowhere to eat it, so you have to take it back to your room. Two stars.

We accidentally went to the wrong one of the two properties first and got worried when they couldn’t find our reservation. Murphy’s Law, I guess. The people were great and the rooms were fine, but the breakfast was what really stood out: custom paninis with Wagyu beef, smoothies made with your choice of fruit, and a decent usual buffet selection. We were happy with our choice, but make sure you book the right property. The other one apparently serves a completely different breakfast, with more of an Asian theme rather than European.

Breakfast was excellent value, and the women in the dining room were warm, friendly and professional. The housekeeping and restaurant staff were wonderful too, hardworking, kind and welcoming. My experience with the front desk was the opposite. The receptionists were unfriendly, unhelpful and frankly rude at both check-in and checkout. For a team that sets the tone of a stay, that was disappointing and unacceptable. The location was also noisy at night: large groups of drunk people gathered outside, shouting until 2-4 a.m. I could hear them even with earplugs, so getting restful sleep was impossible. Management should take the front desk team’s attitude seriously. Those first impressions stayed with me, and they were very poor.

The location was handy and breakfast was nice, though I’ve had better elsewhere. The rooms felt too small for the price, and the place didn’t really stand out. I thought The Breakfast Hotel Fukuoka was just okay. It could work for a short stay if compact rooms don’t bother you.
