Residence Hotel Hakata 19

The rooms were a decent size for Japan, but they needed a thorough deep clean. There was no housekeeping during our stay, and having to wash our own towels was disappointing. We used the hotel as a base while travelling around Japan, but there was no reception on site and no check-in information arrived beforehand, so we had to call for help when we got there. The location is convenient, but I’d strongly advise against staying at weekends. Nearby clubs made a lot of noise through the night, and people smoked and socialised outside. We wouldn’t recommend this place or choose it again.

The rooms were small, but clean and cozy, with air conditioning that was especially nice during our July visit. The location was awesome, and we had a great experience. Check-in can be done at the hotel entrance. There’s no one there to help, but the process was easy and painless. I’d definitely stay here again on my next visit to Fukuoka.

The apartment was huge for Japan and had room for up to 8, though there were four of us and we just enjoyed the extra space. A bigger group might find seating scarce, with only six dining chairs and one two-seater sofa. The location is good, close to transport and plenty of restaurants, but the basics let the place down. We enjoyed Fukuoka, though we’ll stay somewhere else next time. The problems began on arrival: the smoking area is beside the lobby, so smoke drifts inside while you register. The property needs attention, with a worn and partly missing lift carpet, missing a/c controls on the walls, missing timber arms on the sofa, broken recycling bin handles, missing torches, and a saucepan with extensive burnt remains on its bottom. Cleanliness was a real letdown too. The fridge hadn’t been cleaned, the kitchen counter had marks, and there were obvious dirty patches on the floor. That surprised us, since everywhere else we’d stayed in Japan had been immaculately clean. The room also smelled of stale smoke, and cigarette packs were under the bed. It was clear previous guests had smoked there.

The room was really nice, and the service was so kind that I couldn't give the place a bad review. You do have to go to a different location to collect the key. Only some of the rooms are in the hotel itself, a bit like Airbnb. Thank you.
