TOHO Hotel Hakata Hiemachi

It’s a 15-minute walk from both the subway station, one stop from the airport, and the JR station. Staff were friendly and helpful: they emailed directions and instructions before we arrived, then explained everything clearly at the hostel. You get two beds, WiFi, and shared bathroom facilities, with the toilet shared by the floor and showers shared by the whole building. That was all we needed, so it worked perfectly for us. Just bring your own towel or pay 50 yen for one.

The walls are really thin, so you’ll hear someone on the floor if they speak a little loudly. It’s a bit tricky to find, though close to the terminal and Canal City, and there’s a common area on the 3rd floor. I stayed one night with my mother, and the room was just the right size for somewhere to sleep. Bring your own amenities. The staff spoke perfect English and were very friendly, as were the other guests.

The beds were amazingly comfortable, and the hostel was clean and nice. The workers were kind and helpful. It’s around 15 minutes from the station, and you can also get there by bus.

Staff are friendly, but this isn’t a social hostel. There’s not much to see in the surrounding neighborhood, and the beds and facilities are pretty basic. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Hakata Station, with a bus running very close by. Fine for a night’s sleep, probably no more than that.
