The room is spacious enough for two 28-inch suitcases and two carry-ons, and it’s fully equipped. There’s a balcony where you can step outside to check the temperature. Inside, I found a microwave, oven, TV, vacuum cleaner, fridge, washing machine, hot water bottle, iron, hairdryer, and a huge wardrobe. The hairdryer is small, so people with thick or long hair may want to bring their own. I booked Yakuin Apartment on Booking.com, and the location was fantastic. Yakuin Station is an easy walk away. I don’t enjoy staying in busy areas, and being some distance from Tenjin and Hakata stations suited me well. If you want more bustle, Nakasu Island might be a better choice. It’s in a residential building where mostly locals live, along with a few other rental apartments, so it feels like a chance to experience everyday life in Japan. There’s an electronic lock at the first-floor entrance and an elevator to the upper levels. Two convenience stores and several izakayas nearby stay open past midnight, which is great for finding food late. This is a rental apartment, so don’t expect perfect cleanliness or great service like you might get in a large hotel. They can’t renovate after every guest! Still, it’s an excellent apartment, and I’d definitely stay here again on my next trip to Fukuoka.
