Fukuyama New Castle Hotel

The restaurant was nice, and the staff were absolutely wonderful. Our room was small, but still much bigger than the room at the Tokyo hotel where we spent one night. It was neatly set up and very clean. Since this is my first visit, I don’t know Japanese hotels well, but I’d definitely stay here again. It’s conveniently across the street from the train terminal.

The room view was perfect, with Fukuyama castle right there if you book a room facing it. Breakfast was nice too, with different local dishes to try. The hotel is handy for Fukuyama JR station, and right outside you can find a convenience shop and places to eat, including Japanese pub, cafe, and ramen.

We ate dinner at the Japanese restaurant Tomonoura on the first basement floor. It cost 3,300 yen, and guests spending over 3,000 yen get a free drink. The presentation and quality were high, but the portions felt small. Breakfast is served either there or at the restaurant buffet. The buffet had lots of choices, each dish seemed carefully made, and it was delicious. The fried egg omelettes are made fresh to order. Our weekend night with breakfast was about 12,000 yen. We had a king bed and a castle view, and I’d recommend choosing that view instead of skimping on the price. The building isn’t new, but it’s impressively well kept, with clean wallpaper and bathrooms. Front desk and restaurant staff provided solid service. The hotel is right by Fukuyama Station, just a few minutes away.

It was a comfortable, peaceful stay. The facilities are a little dated, but regular upkeep has kept everything clean. Having a coin laundry in the hotel was very convenient. A convenience store is within walking distance, while the nearest station takes a bit of a walk.
