Keishokan Sazanamitei Guest House

The food was amazing, and the room was large and creatively designed. But the hot spring was cold when we went to sit in it at night. We asked a server who only spoke Japanese, and he said he’d forgotten to turn on the heater for our room at 9 p.m. We ended up bathing the next morning, when the water was warm. At least we got a refund. I hope it was a one-time mistake and won’t happen again.

I spent three nights here and enjoyed each one. Dinner was fantastic every evening, with a different menu each night, fresh seafood, and steak cooked just right. The service was impeccable, and the staff were polite and very helpful. The whole place felt peaceful. The town is a lovely quiet escape from the city, with views of the ocean and nearby islands. There are Family Marts nearby if you still want the convenience-store option. My room was clean, and so was its private onsen. You can adjust the temperature if needed, and the view from the bath is great too.

Book ahead, I’d recommend it for this luxurious onsen stay. The room has a private onsen with open windows facing the ocean, so you can feel the sea air while you soak. There’s also a public hotel onsen supplied by nearby Hot Springs, with a beautiful open ocean view and a relaxing feel. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and the staff were smiling and ready to help. Don’t forget to ask about the free shuttle to and from Fukuyama station.

The restaurant food was amazing, and the front-of-house team knew the dishes and could answer questions. Hotel staff were knowledgeable, very polite, and helpful. The public bathhouse was clean and usually quiet. I had an amazing stay and would recommend this as a good place to stay in Tomonoura.
