Snowball Hostel

We had a comfortable twin room for our ski holiday, with ski storage downstairs. The shared area was tidy, but there wasn’t anywhere to lounge or relax, just tables and chairs. There was storage for food and drinks in the kitchen, though kitchenware was very limited and there were no knives, which made preparing food difficult. Very basic, budget style.

A non-refundable tourist trap. The location near the slopes and the cleanliness each earn a star. Beyond that, the place felt soulless and focused only on profit. The interior was all plastic and synthetic, with no cozy shared spaces, books, games, or sense of hospitality. There were just chairs and high tables in the dining area. I paid €68 a night for a tiny dorm cube under 2 metres long, and had to make my own bed. I was the only woman among five men, which made me feel misplaced in a male dorm even though there were other women at the hostel. When I asked if there could be a space for women too, the owner rudely said it was “all mixed”. Ventilation was poor. The owner angrily shut the windows despite some guests smoking, and there was heavy condensation inside the cube. Mould seems inevitable. It works for storing your body overnight while skiing, nothing more.

A nice little hostel, no problems during my stay. The bunk beds were comfortable and surprisingly warm.

We stayed 4D3N, and our flight landed late, so the host kindly let us arrive at 11pm, close to midnight. The amenities were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Rentals for snowboarding and skiing were within walking distance, and they offered special rates on lift day passes. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, and the facilities were more comfortable than at other hostels we’ve stayed in. Some kitchen amenities were missing at first, but they got them the next day. There was a Lawsons a short walk away for necessities, with a variety of restaurants nearby.
