The bath was clean and pleasant. This is a nice ryokan, though my room hadn't really been renovated like the rest of the building. There were a couple of millipedes inside, with a laminated note on the bed explaining that they can get in because the hotel is next to the forest. I don't personally mind them, but the note came across like an excuse.

It's a calm, clean, retro inn, and I think it suits people who want to unwind rather than stay somewhere sleek and modern. Even though it's old, the cleaning was thorough and the service polite, which left me very pleased. We also got to have the bath to ourselves as a family. The inn is near a plum grove, so insects coming in when you open a window seems understandable to me. I'd suggest visiting in late February or early March, when the plum blossoms are just beginning to open, depending on how warm the year has been.

I spent three nights here during a sports training camp. The staff were very kind and the food was delicious. With a park next door, it's a great spot for a morning walk. I'd happily come back if I get the chance.

I felt relaxed in the roomy Japanese-style room, and the food was delicious. The large public bath can also be booked for private use. Just be aware that the building is on a slope, so there are stairs to go up and down.

The dengaku was delicious, which makes the meal service problems a shame. I came for lunch after visiting the plum blossoms at Umebayashi Park and ordered the 2,500 yen set, but the vegetable rice never came. Each time I asked, a staff member said it would be ready soon, checked how long it might take, or walked away without returning. I kept having to call over people clearing other tables to ask again. After more than 40 minutes, I gave up and got a refund for the rice before leaving. They should have checked each table once they knew there was a problem, instead of responding only when someone asked. The response was slow and incomplete. Next time I'd just order the dengaku without the set.
