This mid-priced ryokan offers a level of elegance and atmosphere that feels closer to somewhere much more expensive. The traditional Japanese tatami rooms are lovely, though a bit small, and all face the beach and sea. Its location is hard to beat, near Hagi castle ruins, Hagi castle town, Shizuki park, and the Japan Sea. Staff were friendly and helpful. The price includes an excellent kaiseki dinner. I also enjoyed the inside Ofuro, and the smaller rotenburo overlooking the beach was a relaxing treat. Highly recommended.

So kind~

The open-air bath at the hot springs was pretty good. I was less impressed by the weak wifi and the card payment setup, which only worked if it required a PIN number, apparently because cashiers don’t like that. The view from my room was striking: a long row of pine trees and the Sea of Japan. I couldn’t help reacting out loud. The food, including fried pufferfish and abalone, was delicious, and dessert was served as well. Breakfast was a little plain, but I was satisfied overall. I think older people from the Showa era would probably be happy here. It may be less suited to younger generations.

Our family had a really pleasant stay. The rooms had a relaxing tatami smell, and everything was beautifully maintained. Even now, a night with two meals cost less than 20,000 yen per person, and everyone was pleased with the price and service. There’s a private beach behind the ryokan, and I’d like to swim there next year. Dinner was a just-right portion, served in private Japanese-style rooms where three families with children could relax without worrying. I also liked the traditional Japanese breakfast set, which had a good amount of food. At breakfast, the staff greeted us warmly and said kind things to the children. The tableware and Hagi ware displayed around the place were beautiful, and we learned a lot during a pottery experience the next day. I fell asleep deeply for the first time in a while, listening to the waves from my futon and counting their sounds while soaking in the hot springs. If you like buffets or prefer newer rooms, choose a hotel or ryokan that offers those things. There’s something special about this place.
