The view from my spacious room over the lake and the bridge was fantastic. It was clean and comfortable, though a bit dated. This is a charming, traditional ryokan in Hakone, about a 10-12 minute walk from Yumoto station. Breakfast and dinner are traditional and served in the room. The private onsen costs 3,000 yen and is on the other side of the lake. I found it really relaxing and worth the money. The staff were always smiling and helpful, and some speak English. Honey deserves a special mention: she spoke perfect English, was punctual, and took great care of us at both meals. I highly recommend the hotel, especially for Honey’s excellent service.

The woman who looked after us was amazing. She took great care of us at breakfast and dinner and with room service. We had a wonderful two days, enjoying the private onsen and the other facilities. For getting closer to Japanese culture, I think this hotel and its staff are a good choice.

We left feeling relaxed and restored after a wonderful stay at Shiunso. The meals were incredible, and both private onsens, along with the private bath in our room, were amazing. Every staff member was kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

We could hear the river rushing and the sounds of nature from our room, which had a beautiful private onsen overlooking the water. Dinner and breakfast were included, both traditional Japanese meals served in multiple courses.

The main terrace had a mesmerizing view, the beds were very comfortable, and the location was easy to get to. We visited as a couple for two nights in March 2025, and the staff were amazingly kind and polite from arrival to checkout. Everyone knew basic English, and some spoke it very well. The food was incredibly delicious. I don’t think I’ll be able to enjoy miso soup anywhere else now. Both private onsens were superbly comfortable. Tattoos mean you can’t use the public onsens, and the outdoor private one was especially romantic, with a sakura tree in the middle. 10/10, can’t wait to come back!
