Kagetsuen

The hotel is right by the ropeway and the pirate ship ferry, with a regular bus stop just outside. Mt Fuji is visible from the car park, and the private hot springs were nice. The room had all the basic services and was pleasant enough. Just be aware that you need to book the restaurant for dinner. I hadn’t realized, and since restaurants in the area close early, I ended up eating instant rice from the hotel shop.

Parking was no issue for us, even in peak season, since there were quite a few spaces. Breakfast had a decent enough selection, about 7/10 for us. We didn’t try the onsen this time because the hotel seemed so old. It’s up on the mountain, which makes for a quiet, serene setting, though the location isn’t the most convenient. The hotel is old overall, but clean and clearly maintained. The room was spacious enough for a night. The toilet ceiling was so low I kept hitting it with my hands while changing, and the mattress felt soft and wobbly. The pillow was firm, in case that matters to anyone. Good value for one night, especially during peak season.

The rooms feel neglected, old, and the onsens aren’t well maintained. On the plus side, the location is great, you can see Mt. Fuji from the hotel garden on a sunny day, and both breakfast and dinner service are really good.
