The house was clean and comfortable, with clean futons, and the open ceiling meant our taller family members had plenty of headroom. Heating kept the whole place warm late into the night, and we stayed cozy even after turning it off at bedtime. On checkout morning, the owner took a family photo for us. We stayed one night to support the Hakone Ekiden, but next time we’d like to come for more than two nights. It’s a rental villa, so a longer stay feels like the way to enjoy it. We had planned to visit a day spa, but we’d limited our internet use and didn’t have time to look up the details, so we used the indoor bath instead. On a cold, lightly snowy night, the hot water and bubble bath we’d bought at a convenience store warmed us up nicely. The tub was deep and reminded me of the Showa era. It wasn’t long enough to stretch out, but we could soak up to our shoulders, which was satisfying. We’d brought towels, toothbrushes, and pajamas, then bought travel-size shampoo and other items at a nearby convenience store. At the supermarket, groups of students, inbound tourists, and police officers were buying late-night snacks, so supplies were low and we only managed to find bottled water. The kids had been looking forward to stargazing, but it was too late when we got back, and the owner had already left, so we couldn’t borrow the telescope we’d requested in advance. I’m not sure what time I was supposed to ask for it. I should have checked. The free Wi-Fi information was there, but it wouldn’t connect reliably. It dropped almost immediately when it did connect, and some devices never connected at all. A pocket Wi-Fi might be useful. The kitchen had a full set of dishes for ten, pots, frying pans, a rice cooker, and knives. Since we were only there overnight, we ate out rather than cooking.

The kids loved the bunk beds, and we could relax around the barbecue without worrying about other people. We were a family of four with two children, and the manager was so kind to them. They also explained the astronomical observation, and we got to see the moon and Saturn together, which was a great experience for parents and kids alike (^o^). It might be fun to look for insects here in summer too. We’d love to come again. Thank you (^^).

About 15 friends and I come here every year to use the BBQ grill. It has a lid, so you can cook big cuts of meat and have a proper BBQ. It’s a nice place to spend some quiet time.

We come here every year for company events. The forest air left us feeling refreshed, and the location is fantastic. It’s clean and reasonably priced too. We had a great time and will definitely be back! 😊

The manager was welcoming during our four-day, three-night New Year's trip with friends, and the stay gave us some wonderful memories. We observed Saturn and Jupiter through the telescope and had a bonfire together around the fire pit. The manager was very friendly and kind, and I’d like to stay here again. If I visit Hakone, I’d definitely choose this cottage again. The cottage is a little old, but it was well cared for and felt very clean. There’s a TV, though for watching a movie with friends, I’d suggest renting a projector. Hakone Sushi is about a three-minute drive away, and its conger eel sushi, mentioned on the inn’s website, was delicious. The inn also offers delivery. The price was very reasonable, just under 20,000 yen per person for three nights and four days, including the bonfire pit, projector, hot plate, and earthenware pot set. A few things to know if you’re planning a stay: bring your own condiments, plastic wrap or Saran wrap, tissues, shampoo, body soap, and towels. There’s a convenience store about a 5-10 minute walk away, and a small supermarket about three minutes by car for basic ingredients. The frying pan was a little burnt and hard to use, so bringing your own could be a good idea if you plan to cook. For a cottage near Hakone that can host a group, I highly recommend Sun Terrace Hakone.
