I stayed here with three friends for a short snowboarding trip in Hakuba. The owner walked us through the amenities, including the dry room, and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. He greeted us every morning, and it honestly felt like staying with a family member. You can tell the owners really care for their guests. At checkout, he even offered us a free ride to the bus station so we’d make it back to Tokyo on time.

The hot bath was great after a day in the snow, and Masuda was so kind. When we arrived, he explained the local options and shops he knew about. On checkout day he even drove us to our bus station. We were three Aussies there for the snow. The rooms are simple but have what you need, and the heating worked well. Bathrooms are communal, with plenty of cubicles, and I never had to wait for a shower. The shared areas were very clean and clearly checked and tidied every day.

A super cozy, welcoming home, with loads of restaurants and bars nearby. There’s an easy bus ride to the slopes, and we walked from the train station. It took about 30 minutes, but the route was easy and scenic. We loved our stay.

We stayed at Pension Marionette in January 2026 and loved it. The atmosphere was lovely and it’s close to everything. It felt more like being in someone’s home than at a hotel.

We spent a week here in December 2024. It’s well placed for town, and there’s a quick shuttle to the ski slopes. The rooms are basic but fine, especially if you’re backpacking or on a budget. If you want more than a warm place to sleep, you might be disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend it for young children or anyone who has trouble with shared facilities or steep stairs.
