Hotel Crown Palais Hamamatsu

The room had been renovated recently and was comfortable, and the location is very convenient. Breakfast wasn’t good, and the restaurant is so small it’s hard to get past people. The hotel staff, especially at the front desk, weren’t friendly. Maybe it was because there were so many foreigners there.

The view is cool, but everything else felt very average. The hotel is old, dated, and worn, and the staff were the least helpful I’ve met so far on my trip in Japan. Definitely not five-star service.

I’ve stayed in hotels for over 30 years, and this was the worst. The rooms were awful. My first room reeked of cigarettes, and I couldn’t stay there for more than a few minutes. The decor was extremely dated, as you can see in the photos, and there were bugs. Other travellers found them on the books in their rooms, and we found them all over ours. We ended up switching rooms, but the new one had no air conditioning and bugs in the bed. It smelled really musty, like it hadn’t been opened in years, and reminded me of a horror movie hotel. The staff were nice to deal with and I feel for them, but I didn’t sleep at all. We were sweaty and worried the bugs would get on us.

Getting in and out wasn’t convenient. The map made the location look fine when I booked, but you have to go through an underpass every time you come or go. The front desk attitude and service were awful. The mattress and quilt were very uncomfortable, and I could feel the springs. When I ordered McDonald from Ubereats, the front desk told me deliveries weren’t allowed. I tried to explain in Japanese and English, but they kept interrupting me. It was really rude.
