The main building is made entirely of zelkova, and there's a striking contrast with the Western-style annex. Fujizo Ryokan protects the 600-year-old Namari Onsen. Its four baths use water from five hot spring sources, and the baths in the annex guest rooms are also 100% natural spring water, just like those in the main building. The annex offers fresh air, while the main building lets you enjoy the traditional baths. The tub is connected directly to the hot spring outlet and is about 1.2m deep. Spring water fills it without being exposed to air and oxidizing or being diluted with water, so you can immerse yourself fully for a luxurious soak.

Kokoro no Toki, Jusangatsu felt unlike the traditional onsens I've visited. It's the most modern onsen hotel I've stayed in, set up more like an upscale apartment, and the whole place seems designed to impress. It worked on me. The chef deserves credit for the superb dinner.

The hosts were great, especially the man from Nepal who helped me check in. He spoke excellent English and was really welcoming. I especially enjoyed the river view from my private onsen. Fujisan ryokan's public onsens are also worth a look, and you can reach them by an indoor walkway. I'd come back.

The room was nice, the food was very good, and it's a nice onsen hotel.

The private bath in my room had excellent water quality, and getting to try different baths made the stay feel twice as satisfying and like great value. I enjoyed the mix of Fujisawa Ryokan's retro atmosphere and Jusan-gatsu's modern space. Jusan-gatsu's clothing, food, and lodging were all interesting, as was the designer's artistic touch. The weather was wonderful, and my stay was comfortable. I look forward to visiting again!
