HOTEL FORK & KNIFE Miyajima - Opening in Mar 28th 2026

We had a really relaxing stay while visiting Hiroshima and Miyajima. The hotel is welcoming and peaceful, with excellent service and delicious food, close to both the Miyajima ferry and train stations. Our clean, comfortable rooms had a beautifully done modern Japanese style. The attention to detail was excellent, especially in the service and food. Dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and made with tasty local ingredients. It was a gourmet treat that exceeded our expectations. We also enjoyed the spa and balance room gym, which were welcome additions.

The meal was the highlight of my stay: chef Aya Ishihama cooked over a wood fire in person, and it was fabulous, with attentive service. It was much better than the food I had at Simose Art Garden Villa. Breakfast took 30 minutes to arrive but was just as satisfying. Half board was $714. The hotel opened on the day I stayed, and the service was friendly, with many staff fluent in English. The rooftop has breezy indoor-outdoor onsens, mixed gender, using natural hot spring water from Miyahama. They're on the small side, though I had them to myself. Check-in and check-out were very easy, using a QR code as the room key, and the internet was fast. I stayed in room 410 yoizuki Yoizuki, named for the gorgeous scenery of Miyajima. There are 34 sleek rooms named after Hiroshima and Miyajima's nature and scenery, with raised platforms and shoji screens. The architecture by Fumihiko Sano uses cypress and cedar in a sukiyaki style. It's a 10-minute walk to the ferry for splendid Itsukushima shrine. From there, you can explore the Seto Inland Sea and lush, glorious Miyajima Island with its wild deer. A stay here nourished both my stomach and my soul.
