Miyajima Coral Hotel

The cafe and restaurant serve oyster and Hiroshima dishes that can hold their own against what you’ll find on Miyajima. The location is the real draw, with the ferry terminal only about 20 meters away, so going back and forth to the island is easy.

The lobby has a fun gift shop, and the hotel is really close to the Miyajima Island Ferry. We had a great room with comfortable beds and flooring, plus lovely views.

I was disappointed with this booking. I thought the hotel was on Miyajima, based on its name and a review saying you could visit the island before sunrise or after the crowds had left. That turned out to be misleading: the hotel is by the ferry port on the Hiroshima side. The photos online also didn't match what I saw, and there isn't anything especially distinctive about the place. Breakfast fell well short of what I've had elsewhere in Japan, including fake orange juice despite all the orange groves nearby. I really regret choosing it. Check carefully where it actually is before booking.

The room was clean and good value, though I found five sets of used slippers under the bed. You can ask for daily cleaning. The hotel is right by the ferry terminal and a short walk from Miyaguchi station. There's a cafe downstairs that opens at 7am, plus other restaurants at the terminal.
