Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto

The onsen was one of the best we've experienced at a hotel, with indoor and outdoor baths, plenty of amenities, and a very hot sauna. We also loved spending time taking in the view from our beautiful mountain room, which combined Japanese and Western styles. From arrival, the personalized service stood out: staff guided us and brought our bags to the room. It's only a little out of the way, perhaps five extra minutes uphill compared with some hotels on the shore. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend it.

The kaiseki dinner felt like a trip through Miyajima's flavors, aromas, and textures, and a memorable way to experience the island. I came to the Grand Hotel Arimoto hoping for cultural and culinary immersion, and what I felt there went far beyond what I'd expected. Miyajima is magical already, but this ryokan made the stay feel like a dream, with tradition carefully attended to and Japanese hospitality, professionalism, and kindness throughout. Our caregiver was a trainee, yet made us feel appreciated from start to finish. The traditional rooms and the onsen also helped us feel immersed in Japan, especially the outdoor bath and its beautifully kept garden.

We spent one amazing night here on Miyajima Island in December of 2025. The room and service were perfection, and the restaurant and food were fantastic too. Magical, and my highest recommendation.

The kaiseki dinner was excellent, with local delicacies prepared and presented beautifully. We also enjoyed the spacious, clean public bath, which changes between the men's and women's sides in the morning and evening, letting you try both setups. Our room faced the temple and had a lovely, peaceful view. The hotel felt elegant but still relaxing, and the lounge and traditional garden were nice spots for a quiet break. There's a guided night walk, though we preferred to wander around Miyajima by ourselves in the peaceful evening. A comfortable, authentic, scenic place to stay on the island.
