The house has the view of Shikoku you really ought to see, right outside the window, and you can enjoy a Japanese Hinoki bathtub too. Getting to the Niyodo blue attractions and the airport was easy. Check-in and check-out were simple, communication and hospitality were great, and the directions for using the house equipment were clear. We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Mei. Haruka-san went well beyond what you'd expect from a host. She truly cares about your stay and is always ready to help, whether you've planned every day or have no idea what to do. Her suggestions are well worth following. My family spent five nights here, and the beautiful countryside view brought us peace every day, rain or shine. Vacation Rental MEI is a must if you want to experience rural Japan. The home is full of lovely details, from the glass sliding doors and wooden beams to the furniture and dishes. It has everything you need, including a dryer, which many Japanese stays don't have. There are two bedrooms to choose from, one with tatami mats and futons, and another with a comfortable bed that can fit a whole family. The cypress bath comes close to having your own onsen experience. You can walk to a nearby train station, grocery shop, or restaurants, and I really enjoyed those walks. Hidaka is about 30 minutes from Kochi city by train, so the city is still within reach. For the price, it's excellent value: you pay per night rather than per person, which is a big win for families or couples. Even for one person, it's absolutely worth it. We stayed for five nights in August with our children, two families in all, and the spacious inn suited us well. It had been nicely renovated while keeping the feel of an old private house. The owner has young children herself, and that gave the place a child-friendly atmosphere. You do need a car, but the Niyodo River, Kochi City, and other sightseeing spots were easy to reach, so we managed to visit somewhere different each day. On our last day, the owner arranged Kochi's famous Sawachi dish to finish the trip. We loved taking in the rural scenery spread out in front of us while soaking in the fragrant cypress bath. The owner's warmth and friendliness were especially lovely. We'd happily return again and again. Thank you for such warm hospitality.

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was a balcony view. My stay at Mei was a positive one, and the staff were professional and able to speak English. I'd recommend the place to my coworkers and family. It was a satisfying experience.
