Kapporyokan Shimizu

A reservation is probably a good idea. We had lunch at Kappo Ryokan Shimizu in Ieshima, sitting back and enjoying the sea view. The atmosphere made it easy to relax over the meal, and the trip there put me in a travelling mood, taking the regular ferry from Himeji Port to Ieshima and then walking along the coastal road. Lunch was built around fresh seafood caught on the island. You could taste the ingredients in every dish, including the sashimi, grilled fish and simmered dishes. Fish lovers should be especially happy here. The careful presentation and use of dashi had the feel of a kappo ryokan. A recommended lunch spot for anyone sightseeing in Ieshima.

The room had an amazing view, and when the sun went down the sky filled with stars. ✨️ The food was excellent too, with the chef's care and attention clear in the details. I'd love to stay here again. I was visiting Ieshima and found the inn comfortable. It's been renovated, but still has the charm of its old days. ☺️ There's no elevator, so getting to some rooms takes a bit of effort. 🤣

I visited for the first time and came away disappointed with the whole experience. Each large plate had just a few small bites, and the next big plate had a few side dishes too. For a moment, I wondered if it was leftover food, and couldn't understand why it was priced so low.

I came for the snow crab, and it was packed with roe. I was especially excited to try the roe over rice with egg. The other dishes were delicious too. Everything was served promptly, so I could take my time eating. The owner explained each dish in detail, which made the meal even more enjoyable. This is a kappo ryokan I'd like to visit again.
