Really nice onsen.
The meals were the highlight. The carefully prepared dishes were far beyond what I expected from a minshuku, and you should definitely get the boat-shaped platter. I’d recommend staying here if food is your priority. We came because I’d heard Himi minshuku served great food and the lodging-site reviews were good. With COVID-19, ours was the only group there, so it was peaceful and easy to relax. Our room was clean and had everything we needed, though it didn’t have a refrigerator. The internet was slow, and the whole area felt slow-paced too.
That Toyama Koshihikari rice is so good, my family got hooked and still eats it. Maybe it’s the water! We were lucky to get blackthroat seaperch at breakfast, since apparently they serve it only when it’s been caught. The guesthouse has a Showa and Heisei era feel, lol. The rooms, futons, and bath seem more Showa, but the food feels Heisei.
The landlady was so cheerful, and she let me leave my motorcycle in the garage, which made this a great stop for motorcyclists. Dinner and breakfast were both filling and excellent, especially for how incredibly cheap the stay was.
The food was delicious, and there was loads of it. There’s just one bath, but you can lock it for private use with family or friends.
