The host responded quickly, even though this is a self-service place with no front desk. The room was good for me and my family, with a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom dryer and a big TV with streaming channels. We barely watched anything since we were busy exploring Hiroshima and Miyajima. There’s no dining table, just a small coffee table, but that worked for us. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Hiroshima Station, with an Aeon/Maxvalue store on the way for everyday supplies. A great base for our visit.

Apart from the hot water problem, the rest of our stay was good. We stayed at Grand Base Hotel for three nights, and we accidentally hit the hot water button and turned it off. As a result, we all had cold showers from late on the second day through the third day. There are four parking spaces, but they’re rented out rather than reserved for hotel guests, which seemed a bit strange. It’s not very convenient for people touring by car.

This is a small hotel with four rooms and self-service check-in, about a 15-minute walk from Hiroshima Station. They don’t clean during your stay, only after you leave, and they don’t change the towels. There are plenty of towels in the bathroom, though.

The unmanned reception made check-in easy. It’s a little far from the center, but otherwise a very good stay.

It felt more like renting an apartment than staying in a hotel, and that extra space was such a welcome change after so many budget hotels on my trip around Japan. It really felt like a temporary home away from home. I’d definitely recommend it.
