I’m giving this place five stars. Omika, where my maternal grandparents used to live, still feels like a hidden gem untouched by tourists, and the hotel had nearly everything I need as a Christian to feel comfortable.

Food was easy to find, with convenience stores and drugstores nearby, a restaurant map at reception, and a shared microwave and hot water dispenser for meals brought back to the room. The sauna was an unexpected bonus in a hotel with such an old-fashioned, Showa-era feel. It wasn't very hot, but I used it and enjoyed having it. Breakfast ran from 6:30 to 8:30. At around 8, everything was already arranged on a tray under plastic wrap. The taste was about what you'd expect at this price, and only the rice came with unlimited refills. I was there on a long-distance motorcycle tour and stayed in a room without its own bath or toilet. The place seems mainly geared toward business travelers visiting nearby Hitachi, Ltd. Women should be aware that the shared bath is for men only. The hotel feels old, and while I didn't notice a direct cigarette smell, there was a stale nicotine odor in the room and around the building. The air conditioner smelled dusty when I switched it on, so I left it off and slept with the window open. That could be uncomfortable in summer or winter when you'd need the air conditioning. There's parking in front of the entrance. No dedicated bike parking, but if there aren't many motorcycles, they may fit under the eaves by the night entrance. If you only need somewhere to sleep and don't expect much service, it's adequate. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to women, couples, or families.

The receptionist was very helpful, and there’s a parking lot, which made things convenient. There’s also an izakaya nearby and a convenience store about two minutes away. It’s cheap, so I’d suggest it to people who are fine with basic lodging. I’d stay again, but I’ll bring Febreze next time! (lol) The building is old, and the floors creak in both the hallways and rooms. My room, which had its own bath and toilet, felt damp and musty. I wish they’d had something like Febreze there. There was no kettle, bidet toilet, or power outlet near the pillows.

Walking barefoot left my feet sticky and dirty. It seemed like the room carpet hadn't been vacuumed. At least the free ice at the front desk was a lifesaver in the scorching heat.

Convenience stores and restaurants are close by, so getting food shouldn't be an issue. I tried the breakfast once, but the sides were just sausages, some mysterious grilled fish, pickled seaweed, and natto. That was enough for me. I was in a second-floor room without a bathroom. It was damp and smelled of cigarettes, which could be rough if you're sensitive to stale air. The soundproofing was poor too. I could clearly hear people walking along the hall and doors opening and closing.
