We only came for dinner because a friend was staying here, but the service was so good that I’d book a stay next time. The hosts were lovely and even drove us back to our lodge after the meal. The traditional pork and chicken nabe hotpot was delicious, just right after a long day of skiing.

The chicken sukiyaki was incredible, just the thing to warm us up after being out in the cold. We booked on their website a day ahead, as requested, and the meal was ready when we arrived. The couple who run the place are very friendly and offered to pick us up from our lodge.

We had Christmas dinner here with two other families. The Japanese hotpot was wholesome and good, nothing fancy. The wine I ordered wasn’t great, so I’d stick with beer or sake. The hosts were fantastic. They played after-dinner games with the teenagers in our group, and also picked us up from our lodge and took us home afterward. All in all, a fantastic evening.

Our large, comfortable room had a lovely mountain view from the balcony, and the meals were superb, especially the delicious homemade soba. Akira and Fumiko were generous, welcoming hosts who made every part of our stay memorable. Akira shuttled us to and from the trek each day, making sure we were heading the right way. By the end of each day, it felt like we were going home. The location was perfect, particularly for walking the Shin-etsu Trail. This was the best stay we had in Japan, and we’re taking home many treasured memories. We highly recommend it and look forward to visiting again soon.

The owners are kind and very nice, and I really enjoyed sharing a drink with one of them. It was a pleasure to spend time at this cozy, pleasant place. It’s high up on a mountain with beautiful scenery. The place is mostly geared toward the ski resort, but I used it as a base to explore the area and visit local attractions.
