It's a big, traditional local house, and the owner was really friendly and helpful. It seems well suited to a family or a group of friends. One thing to keep in mind is that you'll need to speak Japanese.

We were four people in the annex, and there was plenty of room and enough beds for all of us. Renting the whole building meant we could relax and have fun without worrying about other guests. We cooked with the provided kitchenware, and also picked up unusual side dishes and awamori at the supermarket for a little party. With a rental car, San-A Supermarket and Max Value are close; Maezato Shoten is only about a minute away on foot and has lots of ingredients too. The ocean is nearby, with plenty of pleasant restaurants around for a walk. There aren't shops open at night, but you can bus to the remote island terminal for a sanshin live izakaya, then take a taxi back. The price felt reasonable for a group of 4-5, and more flexible than a hotel. I plan to come back. Shampoo and toothbrushes are supplied, but bring pajamas. There's family-sized toothpaste, so bring your own if that bothers you, along with lotion and other cosmetics.

There was plenty of space for four of us, and the kitchen had what we needed for simple meals. I liked having the shampoo and treatment in separate bottles, and the shower pressure was strong. The floors and bathrooms were very clean, and even the futons smelled nice. It had a private, home-like feel that made for a comfortable stay. Wi-Fi worked steadily, and having an extension cord was a thoughtful touch. The other amenities were well supplied too. I was very satisfied and would stay again.

The quiet Shiraho village surroundings made for a restful stay, and we could hear the faint sound of a sanshin class upstairs, which was soothing. The annex felt like home, and we stayed there with three people. It was handy for the airport and several shops nearby. Most things you'd need are there, though laundry detergent isn't, so bring your own. There are lots of drying racks and a clothes dryer, which came in handy for the laundry from our daily time in the sea.

We were two adults with children aged 5 and 1, and spent four nights in the annex. The owner was kind, and the quiet residential setting made us feel at ease. It's around a five-minute walk to the sea. The port takes about 30 minutes by bus, but there are nearby shops, a bus stop, and vending machines, so getting around didn't feel inconvenient. The room was clean, roomy, and had almost all the everyday things we needed. I found it more comfortable than a hotel.
