The room was clean, and the unit bathroom was new and clean too. Still, this newly renovated room really didn’t suit me, though older rooms may be different. The bed was hard, the pillow didn’t work for me, and I woke with back and neck pain after barely sleeping. It was hot in the room despite it being winter and the air conditioner being off. Even without a futon it was too warm, and the dry air hurt my throat. Around 4 a.m. I opened the window for the cool winter air, but the room still felt hot. I’m quite sensitive to cold, so I found the room’s temperature setup really strange. The ventilation also seemed faulty: even with the exhaust fan off, outside air was coming in very forcefully. The whole room felt under strong negative pressure, like air was constantly being sucked in from somewhere, and it gave me a headache. I woke up every hour, getting only short stretches of shallow sleep until morning, and was exhausted when I got up.
