Hotel Dankoen

The Japanese-style room was spacious and comfortable, and it’s walkable to Ito station. A cab is less than 1000 Yen, too. Staff were warm and accommodating, and seemed to make an effort to help us feel welcome. Some English-speaking staff were available during the day when needed. I’d recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

The baths were fine, though smaller than I’d expect for a hotel with this many rooms. The building is aging but still clean, and the staff are friendly. Dinner was disappointing. The dishes looked nice, but most were pretty ordinary, though the fish was good. I’ve never had scrambled eggs that bad in the morning. If you’re after a tasty food experience, try somewhere else.

I visited in May 2023 and had a really nice time. I especially liked the breakfast, but there was one side dish I forgot to photograph and still can’t identify online, even though I’d love to buy it. I ran out of time and didn’t get to try the Onsen. I’d like to come back someday.

The service was good, and the room had a very traditional feel.
