The staff made our stay feel special from the moment we arrived. They were courteous and even helped us with our Japanese. My husband and I had come to Japan hoping to experience a ryokan, and Fugaku Gunjo had the things we were looking for: a luxurious room, a natural hot spring, a view of Mt Fuji, and a Michelin-starred chef. It was expensive, but after spending the night there, I felt it was worth every penny. I’d recommend it to anyone.

The staff gave us such a warm welcome, and Rikah deserves a special thank you for the wonderful service. We had an ocean and Fuji mountain view, delicious fresh food, and great amenities. The MINI BAR was complimentary too!!!! Best hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

I’d give Fugaku Gunjo four stars after weighing the mixed reviews against my own experience traveling around Japan at different price points. The meals were one area that fell short. I could see the effort behind the dinner menu, but it left a lot to be desired. At check-in and during meal service, the staff seemed hesitant, as other reviews have mentioned. English may not be their first language, but to me the attitude was the bigger issue. The property is very private, with roughly eight suites, so you’re unlikely to run into other guests. The suites are huge, with several places to lounge or rest and full-size bathrooms. Set on a hill, every suite also has a private outdoor onsen with amazing Fuji views. The mini bar is free.

Our honeymoon at Fugako Gunjo was peaceful and romantic, and we’d happily recommend it for a luxurious stay. The bay and Mount Fuji looked beautiful from our spacious, tastefully decorated room. We had dinner in a private dining setting, and the food was at a gourmet level. The service was impeccable the whole time, especially from T. Sato, who made us feel very welcome.

The bumpy drive to the ryokan (ryokan) was worth it. Jet lag caught up with me, so I had to leave our French Kaiseki dinner, a mix of French full-course and formal Japanese dining, before it was over. They kindly brought the rest of my meal to our room. Thank you. 🥰
