Our villa-style room was in a beautiful renovated historic building and had its own open-air bath. The property is a lovely boutique place, with excellent staff and fabulous cooking. There’s also a restaurant, bakery and gelato shop on site, which was wonderful. If you’re after a more modern style, they have another property called weazer that looked amazing too. Yutaro, Amy, Mariana and everyone else, thank you!

The next day we visited Izu Arth Farm, which is owned by Loquat, and picked strawberries. They also treated us to a complimentary light dessert set with coffee or tea, all included, which made the visit feel extra generous. When we checked out, we’d already been sent off with a generous box of fresh kitchen baking, including baguettes, croissants and assorted pastries. The room was beautifully considered, elegant but still comforting, and we were welcomed with champagne and homemade gelato. The gelato was complimentary and unlimited throughout the stay. The amenities were complete and good quality, and even the shampoo had a lovely fragrance. We arrived late and moved dinner to 7:30 pm. It was worth waiting for: fresh local ingredients, lovely presentation, and every dish delicious. The in-room private onsen was a highlight, and breakfast the next morning was just as thoughtfully done. Staff were warm, attentive and heartfelt throughout. The nightly price is high, but my husband and I felt the experience and all the thoughtful extras were worth it, even more than what we paid. We’d gladly return.

Amy was wonderful, and the whole team went out of their way to make our stay feel perfect. We spent two nights at Loquat during our Japan trip, and it gave us exactly the quiet rest we needed. The rooms and the history of the property are hard to match, and there wasn’t a thing to complain about. The food was incredible. The in-house baker’s pastries beat what I’ve had in Italy and France. Service was spot on, and the cooking was top tier. If you want a peaceful place to relax and feel at home thanks to lovely staff, I can’t recommend Loquat enough. Thanks for the memories, we’ll be back!

The chef’s meals were on another level. We had two dinners, breakfast and lunch, each one beautifully made, distinctive and delicious. Every course looked like art and tasted just as good. Amy and the staff welcomed us with so much warmth and thoughtfulness that this became one of our best stays ever. The hotel arranged a taxi from Mishima Station, making the trip easy. We stayed in a stunning two-story villa, with a very comfortable bed and linens, a private onsen for unwinding, and a calm, carefully designed feel throughout. LOQUAT exceeded all our expectations. We’ll remember this stay for the rest of our lives and recommend it wholeheartedly.

The Japanese-style breakfast in our villa was superb. Dinner the night before was one of the most unusual dining experiences we’ve had. The staff were lovely, and the chef had sketched out the menu in a notebook before turning it into food that was as beautiful as it was delicious. He’s a real one-of-a-kind artist. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Mishima, then the hotel arranged a taxi that took about an hour. The drive was enjoyable, with lots of countryside to see. Amy welcomed us and check-in was easy before we were shown our villa, or ryoken. As first-time visitors to Japan, my wife and I were amazed by the traditional architecture, peaceful surroundings, lovely views, comfortable beds and onsen. It was a 10/10 stay we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you, LOQUAT.
