Hotel Takeshi Sanso

The restaurant food was really good, especially the meat dishes, which I’d recommend. It’s about a ten-minute walk from Izumo City Station. I was a little taken aback to find a cemetery directly behind the hotel.

For two people, 13,600 yen with breakfast included is inexpensive. The building has five floors. In the room, there was no safe, the bathroom ventilation was poor, and the bath water came out slowly.

The Japanese breakfast was delicious, and the hotel seems to offer catering too. I stayed two nights with breakfast as part of a tour package. The building feels a little dated, and there weren’t many outlets in the room. With phones and battery packs to charge these days, having just one socket by the bed was inconvenient.

We booked three rooms under one name for a relative with a large family, but at check-in the front desk handed over only two sets of keys. At checkout, staff said the third room had never been checked in. We were surprised, especially since all three rooms were on the same reservation. The room charge was refunded, but nobody at the desk apologized, which was even more startling. Since it was a wedding celebration, our guests didn’t make a fuss and slept in the smaller bed. Luckily, they were family. We stayed here with our extended family for our wedding in Izumo, and there were other things we missed too, but this was the incident that stood out most. Anyone booking for an important occasion like a wedding should confirm the room details carefully.
