The pool is really distinctive and a great option in winter. The staff are friendly, though they don’t speak much English, so knowing Japanese is helpful.

The rooms are roomy and clean, and the ocean views are wonderful. The hotel itself is pretty old, but there’s free parking and it’s easy to reach from National Route 9 and the San'in Expressway, making it a handy base for exploring Shimane from east to west, especially by car. I loved the heated saltwater pool, so I’m sad it’s closing at the end of this fiscal year. Three stars because the pool is closing.
