SETOUCHI MANGETSU SOU

It’s quiet and not really a social place, but the location is good, just a short walk to anywhere in Takamatsu. The facilities were clean and tidy, with washing machines and dryers. My private room oddly had bunk beds, which I didn’t understand. The main downside was the thin walls. You can easily hear what the other guests are getting up to.

The location is a real plus, near a station, covered shopping and dining streets, restaurants, bars, and convenience stores. I had check-in questions because we’d arrive late, and the staff replied quickly through Travelocity emails. They sent the door code two days ahead, gave clear instructions, and reminded us to photograph the room code at the end. After check-in, the tablet displayed it too. The no-contact tablet had trouble finding my name at first, but it seems I needed to enter my full first and last name. This is a very cute hostel with a great design and theme. The signs throughout were excellent, clearly written and proofread by a native English speaker. There were useful extras like extension cords, card games, and hairdryers. Our western-style room had bunk beds, a fridge, kettle, small TV, its own A/C, two chairs, and a little table. The table was too low to use comfortably with the chairs, which was more funny than irritating. The futon mattresses were thin, but fine for two nights; the beds had down comforters, and extra fleece blankets were in the lobby. WiFi was strong. The bathroom and shower areas are separated for men and women, and the toilets, showers and vanity sinks, and laundry are in separate rooms, which was nice. The walls are thin, though, and you could hear children yelling and running in the hall from the Japanese-style tatami rooms. I suppose that’s more a matter of bad parenting. Still, it was a very nice hostel, one of the best I’ve stayed in.

All they seem to care about is money. There was no towel, water, parking, toilet, or service. The worst hotel in the world.

The futons were comfy, the place was clean, and they provided lots of necessities.
