Masagokan

We stayed just one night. There isn’t much around besides the hotel and a walk into the hills, but the onsen was good, the food excellent, and the service exceptional. I’d definitely recommend it as a place to stay in Kakegawa.

Welcoming and charming, with beautiful surroundings, excellent food, and wonderful baths.

Dinner was high quality, and although it was served in a large hall, a noren curtain gave us some privacy. Breakfast had lots of local Shizuoka ingredients, and the snacks served with tea were delicious too. The welcome drinks were very generous. Our room fridge had juice, beer, and even 2 liters of spring water. The staff were kind, gentle, and wonderful. Families with small children can relax here without worrying about other guests. There are two natural hot spring baths that don’t require reservations, and some rooms have their own outdoor hot spring baths. The inn is a little way up in the mountains. I’d planned to come by bus, but the holiday schedule was different from what I’d researched, so I ended up taking a taxi. If you have a car, driving might be easier. It’s truly a lovely inn.

The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. There’s a private bath as well, where you can take your time and relax.
