Katsushio Ryokan

The landlady's lively welcome, telling us to eat as much as we could, gave me a boost. I really did my best to finish it all, lol. The seafood was incredibly good. The inn is old and has a Showa-era feel, but it's kept clean with care. I'd like to visit again while the landlady is still in good health...

We couldn't finish all the food, even with two men at the table. There were so many side dishes that we ended up eating extra rice, lol. They marinate the leftover sashimi and serve it the next morning, and it's incredibly delicious, so it's well worth trying. The place was peaceful, the view was beautiful, and the rooms were very clean. We could use the bath privately and really relax. I'd also recommend walking around the fishing port right in front of the hotel. The cute cats often come over, lol.

What makes this guesthouse special is the combination of an amazing view, great food, and a wonderful hostess, all at an affordable price. It has the kind of appeal you don't get at a hotel. I highly recommend it.

The sunset and starry sky were beautiful, and the food was so good there was more sashimi than we could finish. It was also reasonably priced, and we had the bath to ourselves. The guesthouse is on Hijima Island in Amakusa, which you can reach by driving over the bridge. It seems to be run by a married couple, and the wife welcomed us warmly. The building is old, as you'd expect for a guesthouse, but well kept, and we were comfortable during our stay. It's an inn I'd like to visit again.
